Orchid Rain

Origin & Influences: Orchid – often associated with the flower, a common ingredient in herbal remedies to cure coughs and the like, was included in Aztec drinks for strength and power. Latin origins. Orchid's name is more often associated with her orchid-colored eyes and outfits.

Rain – Used to describe a particularly blue mood besides being the sustenance of the planet, the word rain derived from the Germanic word "regna." Rain also means to "give in great quantity," which matches up with the fluid flurry of blows Orchid tends to deliver while fighting.

Age:  17

Species: With large ears that seem to have a second, smaller ear inside them, Orchid's species is the Brown Long-Eared Bat. Beyond the ears and her semblance, there's nothing really that gives away what species she is, except for her sudden strike fighting style, which bats tend to sue while hunting.

Personality: Orchid enjoys getting close to people, if only to do nothing more than to manipulate them. Though she often teases and plays around with whatever "friends" she makes, when she sizes up a new "resource," she'll often stay more in the shadows, calculating the best way to obtain the new "resource." Oh, yes Orchid finds most people to be beneath her, interested in them only to see if their strength can add to hers with minimal effort on her part.
Despite this, Orchid's abilities at manipulation make her an ideal fighter for bluffing and overall abilities for predicting her opponents. Unfortunately when she runs into enemies that do the same thing – or even people in school that put her on the defensive – she often flounders, as she is not used to being out of control of a situation.
However even with her less-than-sincere goals, Orchid is great when working in a team, as she makes it a point to prioritize who is stronger at what activities both in and out of combat, and formulate further strategies and plans from there. Structure is very important to her, and improvisation is not an option in her world, despite combat often becoming as such.
This love of order also lends to her being somewhat of a neat freak, as well as a perfectionist. Orchid can't stand being sloppy-looking, or living in a space that lacks cleanliness, and if she rooms with someone with less-than-neat ideals, it would be one of the few demonstrations of her ire.
She is especially irked by any comments about how large her ears are. Orchid is well aware of their size when compared to her head, and she gets irritated when people mention them. Altercations from the front aren't her style, but beware subtle sabotaging when you really piss her off...

Affiliation: Arcadia Academy

Backstory: Orchid doesn't remember much from her childhood, only that she was a sort of "ugly duckling" among younger kids. Her parents were humans, which apparently warranted discrimination towards both her and them simply because of her being a Faunus. The constant teasing and insulting caused Orchid to have to grow a thick skin earlier on, but she always took the teasing about her ears the hardest, which still stands true to this day. Most of the sensitivity with her ears comes from the fact that rarely did other Faunus seem to have such large ears, and she was never really able to hide them. In more desperate times she'd clamp them down to her hair with hair ties and headbands.
Orchid realized soon enough that reacting visibly to teasing and name-calling only encouraged people to continue doing it. So by the equivalent of middle school, Orchid decided that she would try and limit any visual reactions, and work behind the backs of her tormentors to bring them down. Rumors became her solace, but they were never traced back to her because she was far too sweet to her very small circle of friends to ever do such a thing, right? Wrong.
The way she saw the world was that if she surrounded herself with people that would be willing to take hits for her – and retaliate in other cases – she wouldn't have to lift a finger to do anything, and no one would focus on her for their hits. She was still teased and ridiculed for her race, but it wasn't as bad when she didn't react.
And she had to admit, it was interesting to her how just a simple change in attitude could attract and repel different people. It eventually became a game to her to pit different people against each other and weasel her way into different groups of people. Even in Arcadia now, she doesn't expect the hostile atmosphere to be any different. However without a doubt she's ready to play the part of the puppeteer.

Playing Notes: 

Orchid does her best to mold herself to fit any social situation. Once she sticks to a group, she'll act how she must to earn their favor, particularly enjoying acting like more of a follower just as a joke, when she really feels above whoever she's with. If in a group of wildcards, Orchid will play the part of being sweet and bubbly to "test the waters" so-to-speak.

Hunting

Weapon: Orchid uses a single-bladed Urumi. The blade itself is sturdy and stiff, and extends out to about a foot long, with the hilt being about half a foot. However the hilt itself has a button by where her thumb lands. When pressed, the blade immediately extends into a much more flexible blade-whip that extends the weapon by three feet in length. This allows for Orchid to have a little bit of breathing room around herself and gives her room to actually use her weapon as a whip.

He is always a young man of ideas and has future plans for his broadsword, a dust based transformation called Nature's Wrath.

Aura and Semblance:

As bats have echolocation to locate prey, this is Orchid's semblance. Sending off sound waves, she can get an essential "sound map" of an area, including obstacles and enemies. These sound waves do not travel through walls, and she cannot get a read on things around corners unless she turns them and releases additional sound waves. This ability is most useful in wide-open places or caves.

Fighting Style: Preferring a quick and neat battle, Orchid does her best to get the drop on her foes in order for a rapid victory. She'll first use her semblance to detect any enemies ahead of her. Upon discovering one, she'll sneak up and end the fight with a quiet slash of the throat. If she's discovered, she'll first try to finish the fight without extending her weapon. If it gets down to the wire – or Orchid is driven to far more lethal measures – she'll extend the blade and attempt to weaken her opponent through quick, well-aimed strikes with her whip-blade. This speed and precision is what earned her the nickname Whiplash.
It is very important to note that Orchid is all about driving forward a powerful offense. When caught on the defense, she'll fall back and try her best to outmaneuver her opponent in order to gain an opening to revitalize her attack. Blocking attacks by continuously keeping her whip moving is something she has not yet mastered.
